Netbook Reflection

This is the first year that we have net books at our school from Years 5 to 8 and to be able to connect the Internet. We were also aloud to take our net books home. This was a good opportunity to show that Point England can look after our net books

The thing I like about having net books is that they have helped me with my reading, writing, maths and my spelling. One negative thing about having net books is sometimes the Internet doesn't work.

I think that I have improved in all my subjects by using my net book because iIhave great access to the Internet so I can look up anything that I need to learn about.

I would recommend net books for all schools in Auckland, I really like that we got this opportunity to test our net books.

Thinking skills

This morning the students of Rm 22 got do some things we have never done before. We did a thinking challenge, in this we were given five green cards that had objects on them and one yellow card with a problem. With our objects we had to find a solution to solve our problem. My groups objects were a, hair brush, lunch box, kete, video tape and a tennis racket , our problem was to make a butterfly house with those objects. My group did not succeed at this task , but we gave it a try.

Have you ever done a thinking challenge?

“Do you have NZ champions in your school?” We do! Our Yr 8 Boys Rugby Sevens team travelled to Tauranga to compete in the 2011 Aims Games. We won the Rugby Sevens competition. We played 12 games and won them all. For winning this tournament we received the 2011 Rugby Sevens Champions Cup along with first place medals. There were also 6 players from our team that made the Aims Games Tournament team. The Tournament team has 12 players in it. The players were chosen from 32 different teams.

Badminton

On Thursday 4th of August the year 7&8’s went to the hall for badminton. Our instructor Laureen came from the Auckland Badminton Club to help us with this sport.

The first activity we did was trying to control the shuttle cock with the racket. We had to hit it up in the air 3 times and then hit it under our legs then up in the air 3 times again and the around our backs.

The second thing we did was practising serving. We got into a big circle then we had to try and get the shuttle cock into the bin in the middle of the hall.

My favourite thing about badminton was practising serving cause it was funny seeing everybody miss the bin and also existing watching them get it in to .

The Design Process

In Room22 we have been learning about the design process. We were given a task to improve the street . The first thing you have to do in the Design process is to Find a need.

The second step in the Design process is to research when you research you can look at some ideas on the Internet of what you are going to make. When you find your idea you can make it more interesting and creative. When you finished your research you can reflect and improve it.

Next is Generate ideas. Generate ideas helps you design your own ideas from someones ideas. You can also improve your old idea and make it into a more creative idea.

The next step is finding solutions and making prototypes your prototypes should be as a 3d figure so you can get a better picture of what it is going to look like from all angles.

I think that using the design process is more effective when you are going to build something.

Science Roadshow

On Thursday the 9th of June the years 7 and 8 from Pt England went to Tamaki College to go to a Science Roadshow. We went to learn more about Science and more about our topic Bigger, Better, Faster Stronger.

Before we walked down to Tamaki College we got into 6 groups. When we entered the Auditorium the hosts were just finishing their show about fire and gasoline. Once all the other classes left to go back to school we were allowed to roam around and look at all of the exhibits.

We were given a task to find an exhibit and answer these questions: 1. What was the exhibits name? 2. What did it look like? 3. What was included in this exhibit? 4. What did the exhibit do? 5. What did you find out from this exhibit? 6. What Science idea did it demonstrate?

During that sessions of science I learnt many different things.

Surviving The Waters

For the past couple of weeks of Term 2 the years 7 and 8’s from Pt England have been going for swimming lessons. We have been going for swimming lessons from Monday to Thursday During lunch and after lunch.

During our swimming lessons we have been learning how to do freestyle. When we were learning how to do freestyle, we had to lift our elbows up and then drag our fingers on top of the water. During swimming we have also been doing laps in the pool. We have swimming lessons because if you fall off a boat you will know how to swim back to sore.

This terms Swimming was great because I did 875 meters during one swimming lesson.
